Remembering Jay Weaver

Friday, January 07, 2022

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Jay Weaver, one of the founding members of Big Daddy Weave. Jay passed on January 2nd from complications due to COVID-19. He had been in the hospital for five days prior to his passing. Jay's brother and lead singer Mike Weaver posted this heartfelt message on the band's social media page.

Jay had been battling serious health issues the last few years of his life. He had to step back from the band in August to focus on his health. In 2016, Jay had to have both of his feet amputated to fight off an infection that was threatening his life. He missed four months with the band. His return to Big Daddy Weave happened to be at a show at Unity Baptist Church in Newnan. I was there that night, and captured the moment he was welcomed back by Mike, followed by their big song, "My Story"-

Jay's faith never wavered throughout his life, even during these last few years with his health. He gave it all he had every show, wearing his trademark Auburn football jersey. I know Jesus welcomed Jay with open arms saying, "well done, good and faithful servant."

Continue to pray for Jay's family, his band family, and the many lives that Jay touched in his ministry.
