Blanket Drop

Friday, November 29, 2019

I have watched "A Charlie Brown Christmas" for many years. In fact, I have seen every Peanuts special and read many a Peanuts comic strip (am I showing my age now?). If you are like me, have you ever noticed that Linus never lets go of his security blanket? I never thought about it until I read an article about the one time he dropped his blanket, and it occurs during the big Christmas scene!

Linus goes out on stage to talk about the real meaning of Christmas. He starts to recite from Luke 2:8-14. Watch this scene VERY closely...

Did you notice it? The moment Linus let go of his security blanket?  It was the moment Linus gets to verse 10-

... Then the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which will be to all people...

Was that a subtle hint that we should let go of all those fears we hold onto? Cling to Jesus instead- the one who was sent to die for us and take our brokeness and insecurities?

I wonder if Peanuts creator Charles Schultz purposely had Linus drop his "security" blanket to let go of his fears and trust in Jesus.

What do you hold on to to calm your fears?

Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge... Psalm 62:8
