POSITION: Civil / Structural CAD Designer DEPARTMENT: Engineering POSITION REPORTS TO: Design Supervisor CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt SALARY TYPE: Hourly POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Full Time. 40 hours per week. JOB DESCRIPTION Uses AutoCAD equipment to provide civil and structural design support to engineers by preparing foundation and structural steel layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams. Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for construction. Makes copies of drawings and maintains information regarding changes to database. Makes simple decisions but refers most questions/problems to engineers or supervisor. Has a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology. Possesses mechanical aptitude with the ability to complete basic mathematical calculations. Maintains working familiarity with industry standards and government regulations used in the design of foundations and structural steel systems. Standards include ASTM, ANSI, OSHA, UBC, API, PIP, etc. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Uses computer assisted design/drafting (AutoCAD 3D) equipment and software to develop designs. 2. Creates and revises drawings (detail and assembly drawings). 3. Makes final drawings, checking dimension, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project. 4. Sketches rough layout of equipment and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages and location of holes. 5. Utilizes knowledge of various foundations and structural systems, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings. 6. Drafts detailed multi-view drawings of concrete and steel support systems. 7. Familiar with foundation design, including spread footers, piles, stone columns and other soil improvement techniques. 8. Familiar with structural steel design, connection details, equipment support, catwalks, conveyors, etc. 9. Draws finished designs from sketches. 10. Sets up and maintains an organized file system for production drawings. TRAVEL: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Qualifications:
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: 1. Process Flow Diagram development 2. Piping and Instrumentation Diagram generation 3. Smart P&ID (plus) 4. 3D Scanning, registering and point cloud generation (must) 5. AutoCAD plant 3D modeling 6. Generation of 2D orthographic drawings from P&ID and 3D model 7. Generation if isometric piping details 8. Technical Capacity. 9. Communications Proficiency. 10. Problem Solving/Analysis. 11. Collaboration Skills. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required Education and Experience 1. Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Minimum 5 years’ experience.
