MS Art Teacher Job Description Landmark Christian School seeks an energetic, creative, and spiritually grounded middle school Art Teacher. The MS Art Teacher will teach grades 6-8. We believe that the role of the Christian teacher is to demonstrate through philosophy and lifestyle his or her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a consistent reflection of Godly character, a heart to meet the needs of young people, and a mastery of content and delivery of instruction. The school enrolls about 900 students and is fully committed to a culturally diverse faculty and student body. Responsibilities & General Requirements Teach 6th-8th Art 6th Beginning Art 7/8 2D Media (painting, drawing, mixed media) I & II (semester) Pottery & Sculpture (semester) 8th Advanced Art (year-long) Plan classes and appropriate assignments according to course requirements. Incorporate introductory to intermediate level concepts: elements/principles of art and composition basics, etc. Introduce approaches to journaling, painting, drawing, design, and 3D media. Introduce and expose students to historical and contemporary art works in teaching. Encourage and expose students to multiple types/styles of art for developing personal styles and expressions of themselves through the medium of art. Evaluate assignments, communicate expectations/rubrics – make observations, and offer constructive criticism through discussion and a critique setting. Grade and maintain records of student performance. Foster an atmosphere conducive to the spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional development of students. Counsel students when academic or adjustment problems arise. Plan contests and organize exhibitions. Qualifications Candidate must be a Christian who fervently pursues their relationship with Jesus Christ. Bachelor of Art, Art Ed, or equivalent degree with studio art experience. Making meaningful relational connections with students. Broad and extensive understanding of various forms of art and art-making media. Graphic Design experience helpful. Enthusiastic about growing as an artist, Believer, and educator. Articulate verbal and written communication skills through the language of art. Committed to teaching from Biblical worldview. Eager to encourage creativity and expression in young people. Believes in the critical importance of diversity in the life of a school. Enthusiastic and articulate advocate for the Landmark Christian School mission and vision.
