St. James Church in Athens, GA is in search of an Assistant Children’s Minister who will work 15 hours per week and report to the Children’s Minister. The person in this position will provide administrative leadership and organization to the Nursery ministry, caring for infants and children up to age 5, teaching the good news and showing them Jesus. They must be available to work Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and occasional Wednesday evenings. The mission of St. James Church is “to engage our community with the good news of Jesus and equip believers to become devoted followers of Christ.” The Ministry responsibilities and duties of the Assistant Children’s Minister are: • Develop and maintain close relationships with children and their families; greet and direct new families; check in with established families and provide support for parents, volunteers, and staff as needed • Assist Children’s Minister in selecting, ordering, and distributing Sunday School curriculum for nursery children; coordinate lesson plans and offer teaching to Nursery children on Sunday morning • Lead the Wesley Group for Preschoolers small group on Sunday evenings, selecting curriculum and partnering with a volunteer to teach the children • Welcome newborns to the church family and support their families • Equip parents with skills and resources to disciple their children • Advocate for children and families, encouraging the congregation to be involved in Nursery and Children’s Ministry The Administrative responsibilities and duties are: • Hire part-time paid nursery staff; manage monthly schedules for same • Ensure the church’s ongoing commitment to and compliance with its Child Protection Policy; work with appropriate staff to ensure all volunteers are properly screened and trained for Safe Sanctuaries • Supervise paid nursery staff and volunteers while on-site; select and supervise “lead” nursery workers; conduct regular training for nursery workers and volunteers • Maintain Nursery Ministry roll, including birthdays, family contact information, etc. • Assist Children’s Minister with event planning, ministry goals and facility management • Actively participate in weekly Staff Meetings and Ministry Team Meetings
1. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ as evidenced by spiritual maturity and a close, consistent walk with Him 2. Strong interpersonal skills facilitating communications between children, volunteers, parents and staff 3. A strong desire to serve within the church and the willingness to properly submit to the authority of both the Senior Pastor and the Children's Minister 4. Willingness to learn new skills, work as a team player and be dependable 5. Satisfactory completion of background check and Safe Sanctuaries training
