Overview The Systems Administrator Apprentice will assist the Enterprise Systems Management (ESM) team to complete various ESM operational and project related activities, as well as any Cyber Security related tasks. This position supports the Enterprise Information Services for Department of Energy (DOE) Savannah River Operations Office (DOE-SR) federal government staff and site contractors at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken SC. Responsibilities - Receives daily tasks from the ESM Functional Team Lead and assist the System Engineer with operational and project tasks as required. Additionally, this position will coordinate with the Federal Systems Cyber Security team on cybersecurity related tasks for systems managed by ESM. - Creates, manages, and deletes user domain accounts, as well as granting access to network resources and systems. Utilizes Active Directory and Group Policy to manage domain computers and other resources. Manages user Entrust email encryption accounts. - Additionally, provides support on escalated trouble tickets from the Service Desk. - Assists in supporting, installing, and maintaining/patching servers and computer systems, as well as planning for and responding to service outages and other problems. - Supports multiple Microsoft Office 365 hybrid and cloud tenants providing services such as email (Outlook), text and voice communication (Teams), and other services. - Support in the acquisition, implementation, operation, and monitoring of DOE hardware and software systems, including but not limited to: VMware vCenter Server and ESXi, NetApp network storage infrastructure, Rubrik backup appliance, and Windows Server guest virtual machines running a variety of COTS and in-house software applications. Software applications include but are not limited to the following: Microsoft IIS, SQL Server, and the System Center suite of applications. - Implements security concepts associated with this position, including the creation, maintenance, and implementation of security and configuration baselines for various DOE systems, which usually involves a STIG or CIS application. - Document all incidents as it relates to hardware or software failures. - Provide support for litigation requests for DOE. Ensure documentation of all investigations and litigation requests. Notice: The contractor will NOT document the nature of the investigations or who is being investigated, only the timeframe, cost and the duration of the event. - Assists in the acquisition of information for federal government required data calls and other requests for information. - Utilize a service management tool to ensure accurate trouble ticket tracking. Prioritize tasks and provide optimal administration across the various tools identified. - Assist in establishing and continually improving ESM procedures.


Qualifications - Minimum three years of experience working in a primarily Windows environment, preferably with experience administrating Active Directory and Windows Server systems. - Experience utilizing VMware vSphere/ESXi or a similar virtualization hypervisor is preferred, but not mandatory. - Understanding of basic networking and security principles. - Skilled in PowerShell scripting. - Have the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly. - Ability to work in a team-oriented role that relies on ability to collaborate with others. - Ability to obtain a DOE Q-level security clearance (preferred to already possess either a DOD Top Secret or DOE Q).
