Associate Dean of Students ROLE: We are looking for a collaborative, compassionate, and student-centered professional to serve as our Associate Dean of Students. This role works primarily to chair our CARE Team and the operations of our Jags Care initiative. The Associate Dean is responsible for managing and coordinating a collaborative approach in responding to reports of students in distress. Additionally, the professional in this role needs to be skilled at conflict resolution, process development, and has an understanding of student conduct. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WHAT WINNING LOOKS LIKE The Associate Dean of Students reports to the AVP & Dean of Students, and represents the Office of the Dean of Students as follows: • Manage and Chair the University Behavioral Intervention Team, called CARE. • Manage the processes related to CARE and assist students in distress. • Serve as a nonacademic student conduct investigator and hearing officer as appropriate. • Recommend, develop, and manage special projects that support student advocacy such as the Open Paws Food Pantry, Student Emergency Fund, and other student advocacy initiatives. • Chair the Medical and Hardship Withdrawal Committee and work with students seeking academic relief related to medical and/or hardship issues. • Administer the contract to assist students who are interested in off-campus housing. • Collaborate with various campus partners to build and facilitate student co-curricular experiences that enhance learning including educational outreach and faculty/staff training • Serve as the Designated Campus Official for students who are homeless or in foster care and are in need of assistance requiring referrals to other offices on campus or in the community. • Serve as a Clery Campus Security Officer for Clery reporting. EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS NEEDED TO WIN IN THIS ROLE • Masters Degree and at least five (5) years related experience is required (doctorate preferred). • Experience in a higher education environment is necessary to win in this role. • You must be collaborative and have the ability to communicate well with students, parents, faculty, and staff. This role requires collaboration with a wide range of campus partners and off-campus partners. • The ability to resolve problems, recommend alternatives, and someone who has strong decision-making skills related to students in crisis is highly desired. • A strong background in higher education administration, social work, and/or counseling is desired. • Having a compassionate persona is desired, especially when working with students in distress and/or students accused of potentially violating the Code of Conduct or another University rule.
