A Field Technician Level 1 assists higher level Field Installation Technicians in the addition and removal of Optical Transport Systems equipment, hardware, and cabling. This position is an entry-level position in the telecommunications industry.
Experience with telecommunications desired, but not required. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be willing to travel 100% throughout the United States. Read, write and understand the English language. Must be at least 22 years old. Provide and maintain a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance. Provide and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (great driving record). Must be able to learn and apply new skills quickly. Must be self-motivated and self-driven. Work extremely well in a team environment with direct supervision. Must have the ability to work long hours and stressful environments. Must have the ability to strictly follow our company mission statement and core value commitments. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to perform the following actions repetitively: Bend, twist, stoop, kneel Lift/Carry up to 80 pounds Climb ladders safely by maintaining balance and able to use tools and carry materials while climbing ladders Have sufficient hand/eye coordination and hand strength and dexterity to use industry specific tools – power and small hand tools Distinguish colors and fine print accurately Work at different times of day/night (odd hours) Drive safely Drive company trucks while pulling trailers using manual and automatic transmissions (this includes backing trailers safely as well) JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Read and become familiar with all of the requirements for each job as is written in the job Methods of Procedure prior to the job kickoff meetings. Assist in assuring that all job materials, IRM, tools, and test equipment are on-site and accounted for prior to the start of each job. Safely drive company owned and rented vehicles/trailers. Remove trash and debris from job sites daily, making sure that all job materials are removed prior to trash removal. Install/Remove components on non-live networks: Ironwork - Ladder rack - Fiber raceway - Rack/Cabinet Lacing Power Cabling Signal Cabling Assist with additional duties as instructed by job lead and/or manager. Complete and submit time and expense reporting correctly and in a timely manner.
