Some years ago (more than I care to admit) I was in a small group study on the Sermon On The Mount. As we read the opening verses of Matthew 5 that contain the Beatitudes and discussed them, someone said something to the like “I think Brian is a peacemaker.”

From there several others stated that they aspired to have one or another of the qualities Jesus listed in this portion of scripture. After a brief discussion I asked the question, “How can anyone be any of these things and not be all of them? Or, how can you not be one of them and be any of them? Aren’t they all tied together?”

Jesus certainly embodied all of these qualities. And as we aspire to be more like Jesus all of these qualities must be manifested in us.
