How Can These Things Be

Monday, August 08, 2022

The truth isn’t always easy to recognize, especially when it’s contrary to what we already believe or presents a new idea. Many people would rather cling to what they already believe, what they already know even in the face of evidence to the contrary.

how can these things beThe Gospel is like that for many people. Difficult to comprehend, to believe. It’s a simple message at heart, and that may be why, when confronted with the message of the Gospel so many people respond with “How can that be?”

There was man in Jesus’ day, a member of the Pharisees, who went to see Jesus one night and discuss heavenly things. When Jesus shared the simplicity of the Gospel Nicodemus had a difficult time grasping it. “How can these things be?” he asked Jesus.

Jesus went on to explain that one major problem with comprehending the good news of the Gospel, the Light that has entered the world, is that men love darkness, because their deeds are evil and they seek to keep those deeds hidden.

This week during Mid Day Prayer Time, around 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM, we’ll share a portion of the passage that recounts Jesus’ discussion with Nicodemus.
