Firmly Planted

firmly plantedThere are many types of people in the world. But when it comes down to it there our only two distinctions with any eternal significance; the righteous and the wicked or the saved and the unsaved. It has been so since the garden. That distinction is self imposed, whether any particular individual realizes it or not. The choice is ours, believe in the saving grace of Jesus or reject it.

The Old Testament book of Psalms opens with a description of each of these types. Those who delight in the law of the Lord, who meditate on it day and night are like trees firmly planted by streams of water, immovable, producing fruit in its season.

The wicked, on the other hand, are described as chaff which is blown away by the wind, not able to stand in the day of judgment, doomed to perish.

From this side of eternity it may seem that evil, the wicked, are prospering. And they may be. But for only a short time. As we meditate on God’s law, read and do His word, we come to understand that we were once numbered among the wicked, and that they also have the opportunity to repent. And we have not only the opportunity but the responsibility to share that good news with them.

During Middays Prayer Time this week, around 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM, I’ll be sharing from the first chapter of the book of Psalms.
