A Little Clarification
Monday, January 25, 2021
The portion of scripture that we call The Sermon On The Mount is perhaps one of the best known and often quoted portions of the New Testament Gospels. In these few chapters we have the Beatitudes and the Lord’s Prayer as well as number of other oft quoted verses and phrases. “Salt of the earth,” “light of the world,” “turn the other cheek,” “an eye for an eye” all are found in Jesus’ words recorded here.
During this sermon Jesus says a number of times, “You have heard,” and then followed that up with “But I say to you,” to provide clarification on the true meaning behind the laws and behaviors outlined in the Old Testament and to demonstrate that, as He stated, Jesus did not come to “abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.”
Over the next two weeks I’ll be sharing from this part of The Sermon On The Mount during Middays Prayer Time, around 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM.
