Stand Firm

Monday, June 22, 2020

There is so much going on in the world today for Christians to be concerned about. It’s easy for us to mistake just who or what we are struggling against. The apostle Paul brings some clarity for us in his letter to the Ephesians. “Our struggle,” he writes, “is not against flesh and blood.”

The armor of GodCertainly there are those who are flesh and blood who seem to be set against God and His word. Yet when we focus on that human element as someone to fight against, as an enemy, we miss the truth of what Paul is saying. Our struggle is “against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

It’s when we take Paul’s advice and put on God’s armor that we are equipped to not only recognize the source of our struggle but to stand firm against it. Yet, putting on that armor, equipping ourselves with the resources God provides alone is not enough. Paul further instructs that once we have “done everything,” we are indeed to “stand firm.”

I’ll be sharing from this part of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians during Middays Prayer Time, around 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM.
