Don’t Panic

don't panicThese are anxious times. Anxiety can be defined as “a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.” Our world is certainly facing a number of imminent events with uncertain outcomes. Pandemic, riots in some of our nation’s largest cities, an upcoming presidential election that promises to be one of the most acrimonious in many years. Some might say that you’d be insane NOT to be anxious right about now.

Yet even in the midst of all this uncertainty and potential threat to our way of life, there is peace to be found. Jesus spoke about worry and its uselessness. Both in regards to things we may be able to change and those we cannot hope to change.

Jesus told us not to worry about what we will eat or drink or wear. He pointed out that we are unable to worry ourselves into even a single extra hour of life. Instead, He said, trust in God, who feeds the birds and clothes the flowers in grandeur. And, seeing how God cares for the birds and the flowers so much, “will He not much more clothe you?”

That’s not to say we have no responsibility in the matter, for we certainly do. Jesus went on to say, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

With each day and the trouble it brings, God will provide and see us through, walking each step of the way right beside us.
