I have heard it said that we are to work as if everything depends on us and pray as if everything depends on God. There is some validity to that theory. Everything, ultimately, does depend on God. And yet, He has chosen to use us and equip us to work alongside Himself.
In the 16th stanza of Psalm 119 the psalmist states what he has done, “I have done justice and righteousness.” And at the same time he recognizes that not only is his ability to act based on what God has done in his life, but any future action is also wholly dependent on God, “Deal with Your servant according to Your lovingkindness and teach me Your statutes. I am Your servant; give me understanding, that I may know Your testimonies.”
And so we too are dependent on God to not only work in us, but through us to bring the truth of the Gospel to a lost and dying world.
