Jerry's Christmas Playlist

NOTE:

I originally posted this placelist last year (read below) the day after the World Series ended. In 2020 that event came a day earlier with the Los Angeles Dodgers beating the Tampa Bay Rays in 6 games. It's LA's first world championship since 1988, Tampa has never won a World Series.

The World Series ended last night (Wednesday 10/30/19) and I immediately posted a Christmas music video on Facebook. You see, I observe only two seasons, Christmas and baseball. And when one of them ends, the other begins. I realize not everyone is ready for Christmas music nearly a full month before Thanksgiving. So rather than playing a Christmas song on the air this early, I’ll share them here.  That way you can enjoy the music at your pleasure, or simply ignore it all together, it’s up to you.

“Joy To The World” Steven Curtis Chapman

“Christmas Kiss” Erin O’Donnell

“Christmas Day” Michael W. Smith featuring Jennifer Nettles

“Christmas Time Is Here” Vince Guaraldi Trio
From “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” 1965.

“Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” Riley Clemmons

“Merry Christmas, Darling” The Carpenters

The sister and brother duo had some of the biggest hits of the 1970s. Their 1978 “Christmas Portraits” was a classic that still gets airplay and generates sales today.

“When My Heart Finds Christmas” Harry Connick Jr

This is the title cut from Harry’s 1993 Christmas album, one of my favorites and one of the best-selling Christmas albums in the U.S. since it’s release.

“Hold On Christmas,” MercyMe

From “It’s Christmas!” here’s MercyMe and “Hold On Christmas.”

“The Holidays Are Here,” Danny Gokey

Here’s a new Christmas song from Danny Gokey, from his Christmas album “The Greatest Gift: A Christmas Collection.”

“O Come, O Come Emmanuel” Margaret Becker

This is my favorite version of this song. It’s from the 1993 Sparrow Records “Christmas” album.

“Merry Christmas, Baby” Nicole C. Mullen

This is from Nicole’s “Christmas In Black And White” alum.

“I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day” Casting Crowns

Casting Crowns released this song on their Christmas album “Peace On Earth.” They perform it live here.

“Breath Of Heaven (Mary’s Song)” Amy Grant

Amy Grant is nearly synonymous with Christmas music, she’s released 5 Christmas albums on her own and collaborated with Art Garfunkel on the 1986 “The Animal’s Christmas.” This is one of her classics, originally released on the 1992 “Home For Christmas.”

“Christmas Is Here” by Stars Go Dim

The official music video for the title track of the 2018 EP.

“Winter Snow” Audrey Assad

Audrey released this song as a single and it has become a Christmas classic on Christian radio.

“Feliz Navidad” Jaci Velasquez

This is from Jaci’s album “Christmas.”

“Happy Holiday/Holiday Season” Michael W. Smith

From his “The Spirit Of Christmas” here’s a classic from Smitty.

“Noel” Chris Tomlin and Lauren Daigle

This is an amazing version of this song.

“The Christmas Song” Nat King Cole

This is the classic version of this song. Cole recorded it for the first time in 1946, then again later that year with a small string section. In 1953 he recorded it again with a full orchestra. And finally in 1961 he recorded a stereo version with full orchestra conducted by Ralph Carmichael. This is the recording that’s considered the definitive version of the song.

“Christmas Is All In The Heart” Steven Curtis Chapman

This song is from Steven’s first Christmas project, the 1995 “The Music Of Christmas.”

“Christmastime Again” MercyMe

From their 2015 “It’s Christmas” album, their second Christmas project, here’s MercyMe “Christmastime Again.”

“Jingle Bells” BeBe & CCce Winans

From one of my all-time favorite Christmas albums, the 1993 “First Christmas,” here’s brother and sister act BeBe & CeCe Winans with “Jingle Bells.” Notice the gold “G” bug with the halo in the lower right hand corner of the screen. That’s from the cable TV network Gospel Music Channel, which has since become UPtv. At the time this video aired on GMC I was the head of programming for the network.

“Snow Globe” Matt Wertz

Here’s the title song from Matt Wertz’s 2011 Christmas Album, “Snow Globe.”

"Make Room" Casting Crowns

Today it’s a brand new song from Casting Crowns, “Make Room,” featuring Matt Maher.

“The Christmas Song” Lauren Daigle

Lauren has a Christmas project, “Behold: A Christmas Collection,” that was released in 2016. This song was not on that album. She released it as a single in 2018.

“Bring On The Holidays” TobyMac

From TobyMac’s second Christmas project, the 2017 “Light Of Christmas,” here’s “Bring On The Holidays.”

“To Be Together” Amy Grant

From what feels like the 100th Christmas album by Amy Grant, “Tennessee Christmas” (it’s actually her 5th Christmas project) here’s “To Be Together.”

“Silent Night” Sixpence None The Richer

This version features Dan Haseltine of Jars Of Clay.

“Love Came Down At Christmas”

From the album “Christmas Songs,” here’s Jars Of Clay.

“Welcome To Our World” Chris Rice

Chris released this song on his 1997 album “Deep Enough To Dream.” It’s been covered by quite a few artists, many of whom included it on their own Christmas projects. Chris’ original is still my favorite.

“The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” Andy Williams

One of my favorite Christmas songs. It brings back some very warm memories of listening to the vinyl album on the family record player as a kid.

And here’s a bonus version for the first day, Kathy Troccoli’s version with a special appearance by Andy Williams.
