“The World As Best As I Remember It” is a two-album collection that is one of my favorites of all time. The Rich Mullins project was released as two records, “Volume 1” in 1991 and “Volume 2” in 1992. Shortly after the second album came out Reunion Records packaged both volumes as a single release.
One of, if not the first single from “The World As Best I Remember It, Volume 1” (I can’t really remember the order in which these songs were released to radio) was “Boy Like Me/Man Like You.” In introducing this song in concert one night Rich said something to the effect that Jesus became like us so that we could become like Him. And he (Rich) often wondered how much like himself Jesus was as a boy and since the Bible doesn’t give us much information on Jesus’ boyhood it was ok to imagine without worrying about being heretical.
On the 20th anniversary of his death, last September, I published some thoughts, personal memories and information about Rich’s life and music. You can read that post here.
“Boy Like/Me Man Like You” was the #7 song on Christian radio for 1991. The album reached #9 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart in September of that year. I share a video version of that song here.
I also found a live performance video of Rich doing the song in Holland in 1994. It has Dutch subtitles and the quality is not great, but it’s worth seeing Rich introduce the song.
