Whom Shall We Fear

Monday, August 21, 2017

This world is a frightening place. Even here in America, where we once were justified in a certain sense of security, fear is a growing problem. Fear can cloud a person’s judgement, make them act irrationally. It isolates us, causes distrust, despair and ultimately can destroy not only individuals but entire societies.

God understands our propensity to fear. Scripture is full of stories of the Lord helping the faithful overcome fear and remain true to His call on their lives in spite of fear. John writes that perfect love, the type God has for us, casts out fear.

Psalms 27 recounts how David overcame his fear in the face of very real danger. His faith in the promise of the goodness of the Lord kept him from despair. That hope enabled David to remain strong and take courage as he waited for the Lord to act on his behalf.

This week during Mid Day Prayer Time, around 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM every weekday, I’ll be sharing from Psalms 27 as we seek courage from the faith we have in God.
