This week we celebrate the Independence of the United States from Great Britain. The Second Continental Congress of the United States approved the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. But it would take until September 3, 1783, more than seven years later, for Great Britain to formally recognize the new nation.

As Christians, we enjoy a very special form of freedom. Jesus tells us that through Him we will know the truth and the truth will set us free. Paul talks about the freedom in Christ in Galatians, “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” He goes on to warn us against allowing our freedom into “an opportunity for the flesh.”

For the first half of this week I’ll be sharing scriptures that deal with our freedom in Christ during Mid Day Prayer Time, around 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Rob Langer will leading prayer time the last few days of this week and all of next week as I take some vacation time.
