Sometimes we make things more complicated than they need to be. God, on the other hand, seems to be a fan of simplicity. David alludes to this in the 40th Psalm. As he talks about how numerous are God’s wonders and His thoughts towards people, David comes to the realization that what God asks of us is simple, delight in doing God’s will.
David then goes to expound on how to do that, “proclaim glad tidings of righteousness in the great congregation,” tell others of God’s faithfulness, salvation, lovingkindness and truth. In doing these things David himself found hope, comfort and joy. Even as evil surrounded him and the realization of his own sin confronted him, David knew that the Lord would bring out of the “pit of destruction, out of the miry clay” and set his feet upon rock, making his footsteps firm.
For those of us who seek God, who love His salvation, there is eternal cause for rejoicing and gladness.
