This is probably the shortest jump back to the past I’ve done on the Throw Back Thursday feature. We’re going back a short 12 years or so to 2006 and the debut album from Ayiesha Woods, “Introducing Ayiesha Woods.”
Ayiesha was born on Long Island, NY and spent part of her childhood in Georgia, Florida, Texas, Hawaii and Bermuda. She released an independent project in 2004. She was living in Jamaica at the time and a local radio station was playing one of the songs from that project. tobyMac was in Jamaica and heard the song. He was so impressed that he signed Ayiesha to his record label, Gotee Records.
“Introducing Ayiesha Woods” was her first project with Gotee. It included several radio singles, “Happy,” “Big Enough,” and “Beauty.” Ayeiesha went on to record two more albums with Gotee, “Love Like This,” in 2008 and “Christmas Like This,” in 2009. Shortly after the Christmas album was released Ayiesha took some time off to start a family.
She still records as an independent artist, and released “It’s Time” in 2014 and “The Runway Project” in 2017. You can learn more about Ayiesha on her website.
I couldn’t find an official video version of “Happy,” but here is one of the many fan generated videos.
