Our Final Pastor Of The Day
Pastor Randy Robinson of Steadman Baptist Church in Tallapossa, nominated by Kelly Chandler
Here's some of what Kelly wrote about Pastor Robinson, “Our church family at Steadman is truly blessed to have Randy Robinson as our pastor. Randy is passionate about seeing souls saved and encourages us to step out of our comfort zone and let God work in our lives. His sense of humor and enthusiasm for God's word is a delight to all who know him. He is the type of person who would literally give away the shirt off his back. I once saw him take off his own necktie and give it to someone (my son) who admired it. That sweet gesture is just one example of his kind, generous nature. Randy, his wife Lori, and their twin daughters Hannah and Brenna each sacrifice so much for our church and the entire community as well.”
Special thanks to Peachtree City Eye Center and Cohutta Springs Conference Center and Resort for making our Pastor Appreciation Month possible.
Our Pastor For Today
Pastor Allen Robinson from Evangel Temple in Lanett, nominated by his daughter, Elizabeth Robinson.
Here's some of what Elizabeth wrote, “My dad was called to be a pastor 11 years ago. He packed up our family, and we moved all on faith in God. Since we have been here, both of my parents have worked 2 jobs each to support themselves financially. They started a ministry called "Next Generation" for the less fortunate kids in our area to be able to learn about God and be fed and shown true love. No matter the financial situation, my pastor and father has shown nothing but faith and love. I believe that is what a good pastor consists of.”
Tuesday October 27th
Today's Pastor- Randy Harris of Little Bethel Freewill Baptist, Ideal, GA
Nomination submitted by- Angela Hinton
Pastor Randy's story- Our Pastor is awesome! Stands strongly on the Word of God and does not move. Supports everyone he can. He and his wife have taken in a child while mom got back on her feet. Randy also gives his time. No matter time of day you can always depend on Randy to be present. Randy was the Lord and has a HUGE desire for the Word to be spread and lived. Our family and church loves Randy and his mom, Connie. Randy has had a lot on his plate this year, lost of his mother, father-in-law diagnosed with cancer, and so much more. Randy desire a day of rest!
Earnest & Dr. Sandra Tyler of Lovingkindness Ministries, Columbus, nominated by Keia Medlock
Their story- Our pastors are founders of our ministry and was asked to start a sister church. They have not received salaries in the 13 years they have been there. They bought the church van with their personal income and started the church with children in the inner city who were unchurched. They picked them up themselves and helped them get ready. They also took them to places and paid for the meals. They also had to teach them the fundamentals like sitting up and listening during the service. These children are grown with babies and they still come to worship occasionally and those who have joined the United States Armed forces always visit when in town. They look to our pastors as spiritual parents in the real sense.
The pastors never had an appreciation program or service, nor do they have a pastor’s aid committee. When a member asked years ago, they expressed that they did not want the focus on them. They take the homeless and mentally ill that are housed next door to McDonald’s each Sunday after church (Those who wish to go). They have loaned the church van to members to go to work and back and assists with electricity payments. While many churches do this, our pastors minister a small group of needy people and although they say assistance has come from the church, most of us figure it really came from them pitching in. There have been a couple of times, after service, the pastors told the members to follow them. It would be realized later that the field trip was to the ATM as they passed out $20.00 to each one just to be a blessing. They deserve this getaway.
Pastor Carolyn Moore of Faith Temple of Praise in Reverdale, nominated by Jerrica Buckle
Here's some of what Jerrica had to say about Pastor Moore, “Because of Pastor Moore I have had a roof over my head. I was going through a terrible separation from my husband and unable to even see my children. She brought me in her home, loved me, supported me, guided me, and prayed me through. I now have my family back. Every Monday she cooks for and feeds the homeless. Every Monday night, without fail she hits the streets of Atlanta to bring them food, clothes, and blankets. There is so much more to her than what I have said. She is a lovely woman of God and because of her I know the Holy Spirit lives in me.”
Pastor of the Day
Pastor Donald Shearin of Legacy Baptist Church in Dallas, nominated by Kimberly Henry
Here's some of what Kimberly had to say about Pastor Shearin, “As a staff member, I see Pastor Shearin in other areas than just the pulpit. I see him working on the 114 acres of property that God has blessed us with, building, working on our Upward Soccer field, coaching our children in Upward soccer and flag football and playing on our men's softball team. His demeanor and attitude are always Christ-like. He works hard, inside the church and out.”
Tuesday's Pastor of the Day
Pastor Jeff Hines from Sharpsburg Church of the Nazarene, nominated by Cynthia Livingston.
Here's some of what Cynthia had to say about Pastor Hines, "My pastor is such a caring shepherd for his church members. He works so hard to educate us on the life we should live in Christ. We are a small church and he has to handle many different duties which he does without complaint. When my husband had a massive heart attack and was put on life support and subsequently passed away, while we were on vacation in Myrtle Beach, Jeff and his wife drove 8+ hours to provide comfort and support to me."
You can nominate your pastor here.
Monday's Pastor of the Day
Today's pastor is Pastor Gilbert Chavez from Bread of Life Church in Marietta, nominated by his daughter, Elizabeth Chavez.
Here's what Elizabeth wrote about her pastor and dad,
"My pastor is my Dad. He began leading our church before I was even born. He's been doing this for so long, and I think it would be a great way for us as a church to express our gratitude toward him. Recently, he was diagnosed with cancer and underwent radiation therapy.
During this whole process, it seemed as though God strengthened him 100 times more than he was before. My Dad never stopped preaching and meeting with others and praying for them fervently regardless of his illness. On top of being a pastor, he is also has a construction business where he constantly does hard work. Even during his illness, God allowed him to have enough strength to go to work at his construction job.
God used this horrible illness and turned it into amazing encouraging sermons for my Dad to preach to our church. So many people have been encouraged by him, and it's easy for us to see now what God was doing when he allowed this trial to come to my Dad. Glory be to God he overcame the cancer and is now more than ever devoted to the church and his family.
I love my Dad, and I know he deserves some rest, so it would mean so much to us as a church, and me as a daughter to see him take some well deserved time off with his lovely wife (my mom) in this lovely place. Thanks so much for putting this together, this is a wonderful thing you guys are doing for all these hard working pastors. I pray they all feel encouraged by this month as many churches honor their wonderful pastors during Pastor Appreciation Month."
Friday's Pastor of the Day:
Pastor Keviin Williams of First Baptist Church Villa Rica, nominated by Leanna Morris.
Here's some of what Leanna had to say about Pastor Williams,
“Dr Kevin Williams has brought our church, community and schools together. Our church and local high school have been all over the news around the world regarding our "mass" baptisms held on the VR High School football field. Pastor Williams has truly brought our community together and made what the society portrayed as a bad thing into something amazing. Our church home is quickly becoming the home to so many youth in our community and drawing all believers together in our surrounding counties.”
Pastor of the Day
Today it's Pastor Jeremiah Hosford of Abundant Life in Jackson, nominated by Brett Lewis.
Here's some of what Brett had to say about Pastor Hosford:
“Pastor Jeremiah and his team and this amazing church have reached my heart in a way like no other and words are hard to express just how great this place is! I've been attending a few months now and my only regret is not finding this place a lot sooner! I know this is where I belong! I love this church and this Pastor and I never leave a single service in the same condition then when I arrived! “
Our Latest Pastor Of The Day
Today it's Pastor Lee Sheppard of Mabel White Baptist Church in Macon, nominated by Kali Bogdan.
Here's what Kali had to say about Pastor Sheppard,
“Pastor Lee is a man of the Word of God. He preaches it, and lives it. His wife Gina had a stroke April 29, 2014 and our church and the whole community prayed and watched a miracle unfold in their lives. Pastor Lee showed an unbelievable amount of faith and love and trust in God, and showed the community a true, unconditional love for his wife during such a difficult time. He is an incredible example to men of what love and commitment looks like.”
You can nominate your pastor here.
Pastor of the Day
Today it's Pastor Brady West of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in Carrollton, nominated by Renee Parker.
Here's what Renee had to say about Pastor West, "Brady is an awesome student minister! Guiding our youth to become disciples to many, building relationships with the Lakota, native Americans through mission trips to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Showing the love of Jesus by continually going "out of the box" to reach our local youth from serving hot chocolate at schools to giving out free drinks to students after school to serving water to our marching band after rehearsals. Honoring school teachers/staff with lunches. And the list goes on! Brady teaches the gospel in a 'real' way to a 'real' world."
Today's Winning Pastor
Pastor Alex Montgomery of Grace Covenant Worship Cener in Hogansville, nominated by Robert Scholtes.
Here's some of what Robert wrote about Pastor Montgomery, " I now have weekly meetings one on one with Pastor Alex where he has been not only working with my wife and myself but also has taken the time from his schedule for us to meet one on one. He does this not because I give lots of money to our small church or he thinks I'm the greatest guy but because the Spirit has moved him to believe even though I have sinned I am a saint that Christ has called by name."
Friday Pastor Of The Day
Pastor Greg White of Summit Church in Newnan, nominated by Sue Thompson
Here's some of what Sue had to say about Pastor White:
“Greg and his wife Melissa are two of the most selfless, contagiously Christian, humble, servants I have ever met! Both working other full time jobs while our church plant here in Newnan continues to grow. In the 1.5 years we have been in existence, 100 people have given their lives to Christ! Greg and Melissa are in the thick of it, each week here at the crack of dawn setting up church that needs to all go back into boxes at the end of each service. I know they live on a very small budget and would love to refresh their relationship and souls with this time away! “
Our Pastor of the Day is:
Dwayne Perdue of Mountville Baptist Church in LaGrange.
Pastor Perdue was nominated by Whitney Green. Here's some of what Whitney had to say about Pastor Dwayne.
"Dwayne quit his full-time job in January and took a major pay-cut to devote 100% of his time to the church and its members, making sure that he can be wherever, whenever someone needs an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. Mountville is a small, unincorporated community but Dwayne and Danna (Dwayne’s wife) never let our size hinder the big plans they have for spreading the Good News and growing any way we can. I would love to see them be able to win this and enjoy some time for themselves. They are always putting others' needs before their own and deserve to just get away, if even for only one day, and be able to de-stress and unwind. They work as a team devoting their time, money, and love to anyone in need all while urging others to do the same. To be able to treat them with a day of rest would be amazing and just a small bit of what they deserve."
Pastor of the Day
Today's winning pastor is Randy Wood of Liberty Baptist Church in Fayetteville, nominated by Magalys Ramsey.
Here's some of what Magalys had to say about Pastor Randy in her nomination:
"He inspires me every week to love Jesus more, to witness to the lost; also, he increases my understanding of the Bible. I am from Panama, came to USA 5 years ago, and Pastor Randy welcomed me in his church, like a family. He and the church members have given me the family I was missing, the friends I was missing, and you know what, I will be honest, the LOVE I was missing. And you know what is also good about him, his good sense of humor, man he can be funny. What else can I say (with my bad English, because Spanish is my native language), what else to express how much he means to me and to all of our congregation. As a foreigner, in a new land, I can say that Randy has been a wonderful influence in my new life in USA. "
Today's Pastor of the Day:
Pastor Brad L. Horton of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Temple. Nominated by Madison Horton, his daughter. Here's some of what Madison had to say about her pastor and dad.
“My dad is the pastor at Mt. Carmel Baptist church in Temple. The past 2 years he has had extreme medical problems. They diagnosed him with CIDP and the feeling in his feet has started to go away, his feet are completely numb (he is a UPS driver, so this is making his job very difficult). About 3 weeks ago he went to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore where they diagnosed him with POEMS syndrome, a very rare disease that would have eventually killed him if they would not had caught it in time. He will more than likely have to go through Chemo Therapy for 4-6 months and then have a stem cell transplant. My dad has continued to preach and serve his church through all of this. I would love for him to be able to win this to have a get away before he starts all of his treatments. Thank you so much for the consideration!”
October Is Pastor Appreciation Month
Thanks to Peachtree City Eye Center and Cohutta Springs Conference Center and Resort, each weekday in October, beginning Monday October 5, we'll announce a Pastor of the Day, chosen from your nominations. You can nominate your pastor here. Each winning pastor will receive a two-night stay at Cohutta Springs Conference Center and Resort.
Today's winning pastor is Mark Swift of Calvary Chapel in Columbus, nominated by Margalena Remington. Here's some of what Margalena had to say about Pastor Swift:
"Mark is a dedicated father, husband, Pastor and friend. He gives up his personal time to counsel others, to answer calls in middle of the night, to go to hospital and so many other things. He shows so much patience, love and kindness with everyone. And raises his five kids with his wife. There so many more things I could say I could go on and on and on. I know when the Lord looks down here his happy with what Mark does."
Listen each weekday this month at about 12:50 PM for Jerry to announce our daily winner.
I had John Waller on the show today. His latest song, Crazy Faith, is featured in the new movie War Room, which opens on Friday 08/28. Be watching for a movie-clip version of the Crazy Faith video soon. Meantime, here's the official video version of Crazy Faith.
The Great Cawfee Taste Test
The Cawfee Tawk Crew is putting their money where their mouths are, sort of. It's the Great Cawfee Taste Test, pitting 3 different brands against each other in a blind taste test. You may be surprised at the results.
It's the latest episode of Cawfee Tawk. Watch for our Cawfee Art to be available for sale soon.

Cawfee Tawk (Coffee Talk): Blue Mountain Coffee
Rob Langer recently returned from a mission trip to Jamaica, and he brought back some 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee. We had to shoot another episode of Cawfee Tawk featuring this wonderful brew!
It's MLB Jersey Day
Today you're supposed an official Major League Baseball team jersey. Rob Langer and Jerry were only too happy to comply. Benji Shepherd on the other hand...let's just say that Benji is something of a non-conformist.
It's the critically acclaimed web series Kawfee Tawk (Coffee Talk), starring Rob Langer, Benji Shepherd and Jerry Williams!
The Last Haiku (at least for April 2015)
Today marks the end of Poetry Month and of our one-per-weekday original Haiku marathon. Here's the last one. At least for April. Jerry is, after all, a Haiku master, so chances are pretty good he'll have more Haiku eventually.
When We're Done
Wehne we're don living
Once this life of ours we've quit
We will meet again
It's the next-to-the-last Haiku of Poetry Month, and it's about a never ending pursuit.
Push on, push on, push
Never stop pursuing truth
Share it once it's found
When a particular scripture reference enunciates a specific truth that you've experienced, that makes it even more divine. And that brings us to today's Haiku.
My grandchildren are
The joy of my life, my crown
They give me such joy
Today's Haiku deals with those bittersweet memories of days gone by.
Thinking back on days
I was younger, so sweet those
Days that once were mine
Blessing #17, a Haiku
Today's Haiku is pretty self explanatory.
Coffee, black and hot
Not as great as love or grace
But it's way up there
Jerry Invents New Musical Genre
While composing today's Haiku Jerry inadvertently invented a new musical genre!
Scooby Dooby, yo
I think I just invented
A new music style
Curmudgeon: A Haiku
This one is especially close to Jerry's heart.
Some old guy with a
Bone to pick, complaining now
OK, so that's me
Eternity, the Haiku
Today's Haiku deals with the eternal.
No tears, no pain in Heaven
Hope you'll join me there
Communication: A Haiku
Here's today's Haiku
Go ahead and spill your guts
Share darkest secrets
Happy Haiku Day
It's the high point of Poetry Month! Haiku Day is today. So here's today's Haiku (we're presenting a new Haiku each weekday during Poetry Month).
Just won't come and deadlines loom
Write any old thing
A Haiku For Thursday
Thursdays get no respect. They just don't seem to have their own feeling, certainly nothing like Mondays or Fridays. Today's Haiku is an ode to the least appreciated day of the week.
Monda's kind of blah
Wednesday half way, Friday rocks
Thursday has no vibe
And Now, Today's Haiku
Every weekday in April, Poetry Month, it's a new, original Haiku!
No Spring In Atlanta
Winter was too long
Spring seemed to last but a week
Summer temps are here
A Tuesday Haiku
Even though Jerry is off today he's written another Haiku. He's doing a new one each weekday in April, Poetry Month. Here's today's:
More than happiness
Peace beyond u nderstanding
Joy is that and more
The Haiku Must Go On
Rob Langer is filling in for Jerry today and tomorrow, but Jerry has still managed to submit a new Haiku for today. Here it is:
Start of a new week
Taking Monday and Tuesday
Strange days to take off
Hurray For Friday
The weekend is almost here! And to celebrate, Jerry has a special Haiku:
Hurray For Friday
Hurray for Friday
Last workday of the long week
Weeknd goes too fast
Time, a Haiku
April is poetry month, and every weekday in April Jerry presents a new, original Haiku. Today's entry may be an indictment of our modern, hurry-up-gotta-have-it-right-now society. Or it may simply be the first thing to pop into Jerry's head.
The April 8th Haiku
Every weekday in April, Poetry Month, Jerry presents a new, original Haiku. Here's today's offering:
Strikes, but you don't have much time
Bang out a Haiku
Haiku for Tuesday, April 7, 2015
It's Poetry Month and every day Jerry presents a new Haiku to celebrate (well, at least every weekday).
Here's today's Haiku:
Oh my sweet Haiku
Simple three line structure but
Harder than it looks
Jerry believes there are only two seasons, Christmas and baseball. Guess which one starts today? And guess which one is the subject of today's Haiku? Here's a hint, it's not Christmas.
Baseball Opening Day
Open for busiiness
All baseball teams play today
Sweet sound of "Play Ball"
Day 2 of Poetry Month and here's another Haiku.
Periscope is here
New video streaming app
I Haiku on it
For more information on Periscope, visit Jerry's Twitter page. Here's the video version of today's Haiku.
A Haiku A Day For Poetry Month
April is poetry month. To celebrate, Jerry will be composing and reciting a new Haiku every weekday during April. At least that's the goal. We'll post the text of each Haiku and the video of Jerry reciting here every day. I know, how much better could it get?
Here's today's Haiku:
Poetry Month Goal
This is ambitious
A Haiku each April day
It's raining Haiku
Getting There Is Half The Fun
Jerry, Rob Langer and Benji Shepherd made the trip to Sarasota, FL last week for Friend Raiser, and, of course, they documented the trip.
The quest for the perfect cup of coffee continues
Back in January, Rob Langer introduced us to what we've dubbed "Rob's Butter Java," coffee with a tablespoon of butter instead of cream. But not just any butter, this has to be butter from grass-fed cows.
Then last week Rob came back with another ingredient, organic coconut oil. This recipe is called "Langer Latte."
How many more coffee recipes can we come up with? Well, how about coffee with butter from coconut-fed cows? Not sure how easy it'll be to find that ingredient, but we'll keep experimenting.
Jerry Williams: Haiku Master
One man's snack is Jerry's inspiration for Haiku!
Social Media Milestones Within Reach
Granted, this may fall into the "shameless self promotion" category, but here goes. I'm within sight of a couple of milestones on social media. OK, these are not huge milestones when compared to other JOY FM staffers, but it is what it is.
On Twitter (which I haven't been very prolific on lately) I'm at almost at 200 followers.
You can help by "following" me on Twitter. Just click here.
I'm doing a little better on Facebook, where I'm closing in on 400 "likes."
You can help by "liking" my Facebook page here.
THANKS! I thinkk you'll enjoy the information and fun stuff I share through social media.
Remembering Andrae Crouch
Andrae Crouch went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 8, 2015. He was 72. He leaves behind an amazing legacy of service and musical innovation. Jerry shares some personal memories of Andrae on his blog.
Here's a video of one of Andrae's best known and most loved songs, with an all-star choir of Christian music greats, My Tribute (To God Be The Glory)
My Favorite New Christmas Song of 2014
It's hometown girl Jamie Grace's "Born Tonight." Here's the official lyric video:
Friday Funny: Jeff Allen and Buy My Own Clothes
If you have kids, of any age, then I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this week's Friday Funny. For more Friday Funnies, check out my blog.
Videos To Make You Smile
I found three videos today worth sharing, each one ought to make you smile and might even make you forget for a minute or two that it's a Monday.
T-Shirst For Turkeys Photo Album
Thanks for the wonderful response to our annual T-Shirts For Turkeys! If you turned out at one of our stops we may have gotten your picture. There are quite a few on our JOY FM Atlanta Facebook page here.
One week from tonight Mark Lowry brings his Music & Madness tour to Jonesboro (details and ticket info here). So we're featuring another of Mark's comedy bits.
Friday Funnies & Third Day Sneak Peek
Mark Lowry is brining his Music & Madness tour to First Baptist Jonesboro two weeks from today, Friday 11/21. More details on the show, which also features The Marins and Jason Crabb, are here. Jerry shares a little about his experiences with Mark on his blog here. We'll feature Mark on the air on our Friday Funnies through 11/21.
Here's today's bit, Denominations
Third Day has a new worship project, Lead Us Back, due out on March 3, 2015. Today they released a lyric video of the song Our Deliverer.
Throwback Thursday: Charlie Brown
Yes, that says Charlie Brown, as in the round-headed star of the Peanuts comic strip, movies and TV specials. Today we go back to 1965 and the first Peanuts special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. See we managed to once again sneak a Christmas song in under the guise of Throwback Thursday?
You can learn more about that Christmas favorite on Jerry's blog, like how executives at CBS thought the show would only air one time (this year will mark the 50th prime time broadcast of the special).
Here's the video version of Christmas Time Is Here by the Vince Guaraldi Trio which opened the show.
Friday Funnies & Jerry's Office Wonderland
This week's Friday Funny comes from Henry Cho. You can learn more about Henry on Jerry's blog.
Here's the bit we featured on the air today, "Public Engagement."
And the 2014 Christmas season began on Thursday, the day after the World Series ended. Rob Langer and his wife Nancy helped Jerry celebrate. Details on Jerry's blog.
This week we feature a bit from Thor Ramsey. Thor manages to tie most of his comedy routines back to a spiritual message, and this bit, "Hurry Up," is no exception. The video is below. We're not real sure what kind of fashion statement Thor was trying to make on this video, but it kind of looks like it may have been, "Help me!"
Throwback Thursday: Rich Mullins
Today we feature the late Rich Mullins. In his too short life, Rich wrote some of the best loved, most literate songs in Christian music. We feature Here In America, from the 1993 project A Liturgy, A Legacy & A Ragamuffin Band.
Rich is perhaps best remembered for his songs Awesome God and Step By Step. For more information on Rich, check out Jerry's blog here.
Here's the video version of Here In America
Jerry launched a new series on his blog (and You Tube channel) just in time for yesterday's Dictionary Day. It's Grammar Police. Episode 1 is below. (It sort of takes the place of this week's Friday Funny, since Jerry has the day off.)
Throwback Thursday: Steven Curtis Chapman
It may seem a little odd to be featuring an artist who is still actively recording and touring and experiencing substantial success as "throwback Thursday" artist. But Steven Curtis Chapman was around before many other artists who have already flamed out. His first project, First Hand, came out in 1987, 27 years ago! We didn't go back quite that far for the song we feature today, mainly because there weren't any video versions of those earlier works. So we present the video of the title track from the album The Great Adventure, which was released in 1992.
Read more about Steven on Jerry's blog here.
Here's The Great Adventure video.
Thursday Throw Back: Out Of The Grey
The husban/wife duo of Scott and Christine Dente, best known as Out Of The Grey, were Christian music's "It" couple of the 1990s.
Here's the video version of the song we featured on the air today. From the 1994 CD Diamond Days, this is All We Need.
This week we feature Atlanta comedian Kenn Kington and his hilarious look at Hair Dryer Instructions (video is below). For more of the videos and topics Jerry shares on the air every day be sure to visit (and "like") his Facebook page and his blog.
Throwback Thursday: Sandi Patty
Sandi Patty owned the 1980s. She won the Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year for 11 consecutive years! From 1982 - 1992. She also won a Dove for Artist of the Year five times; 1982, 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1988! In all, Sandi has won 23 Dove Awards. She's also won five Grammy Awards (and was nominated an additional seven times).
If "viral" had been a thing in 1986, then Sandi's version of The Star Spangled Banner, sung on the ABC-TV special Statue Of Liberty rededication, would have blown up Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and the rest of the web, but none of those outlets had been invented back then.
Sandi performed a number of chart-topping duets with singers like Larnelle Harris, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and others. Today we featured her duet with Wayne Watson, the title track from the 1990 project Another Time, Another Place. That project won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Gospel Album.
Here's the video of Sandi and Wayne performing Another Time, Another Place on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson.
Sandi will be performing at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church in Marietta this Sunday, October 5. Details and ticket information on that concert are available here.
And in case you missed it, today is Name Your Car Day and Poetry Day. Jerry wrote a couple of Haikus that combine both observances. Read and listen to them on Jerry's blog.
Two weeks in a row Jerry has remembered to play a Friday Funny. He must going for some kind of a record here! This week's funny is especially for anyone who has, or has had, a mom! So we figure this funny is for you. It's from Christian comedian Tim Hawkins.
Here it is, Have You Eaten?
Throwback Thursday: Susan Ashton
She was all over Christian radio through most of the 1990s. Today we feature her 1996 hit You Move Me.
Read more about Susan on Jerry's blog.
Here's the video of You Move Me
We kicked off a new feature on the air today; "Friday Funnies." And if Jerry can remember, we'll try and make it a weekly feature (no promises on his memory though). It's little comedy snippets by some of the funniest Christians we know of.
We kick it off with Jeff Allen and his classic "Happy Wife, Happy Life." You can learn more about Jeff on his website.

Kathy's voice is so unique, so powerful, that back in the early 1980s Christian record company executives didn't know quite what to make of it. Frankly, they were afraid of it. So Dan Harrell and Michael Blanton started a brand new record company, Reunion Records, especially for Kathy.
Jerry and Kathy on Long Island, NY in 1994.
Today we featured Kathy's biggest cross-over hit, Everything Changes. Read more about Kathy and see the video version of that song on Jerry's blog.

Your "Theme Songs" Part II and a game of "Whose Secret Is It" were among our highlights today.

John & Ann Betar on their wedding day, 11/25/1932
On today's show you shared pre-parental advice for Britt Nicole, helped Jerry interpret his wife Teri's dream and participated in our first unofficial Prevenings "Attractiveness Factors" survey. All that plus our daily Bible verses in today's Prevenings highlights.
It was Monday. Need we say more.
Lots of audio highlights today.
We talked with Kirk Cameron, who you may remember for his role as Mike Seaver on the 80s sitcom "Growing Pains." He'll be in town with Warren Barfield leading the "Love Worth Fighting For" marriage conference. And we checked in on Matt, producer for The Morning Cruise, after he had all four of his wisdom teeth extracted.
How do you let your wife know how much you love her? How about standing on a stage in the middle of a busy park and shouting (into a microphone), "I'm sorry that I've gained weight over the last seven years, but that's because the meals you cook are so delicious."
That's what this guy is saying at Japan's "Beloved Wife Day." We gave you the opportunity to express your love for your wife, sort of a head start on Valentine's Day. We also took your calls of comfort and good-natured teasing for our buddy Matt, producer for The Morning Cruise on The Joy FM.
"If it doesn't make the world better, don't do it!" We kind of wish we could have taken credit for that profoundly simple statement. But we can't. We did discover the alleged author of that thought today, and shared a pep talk from him. Plus we award our first ever Official Prevenings Gold Star.
Fridge art, another alternative to the Super Bowl, dating in the workplace, free stuff for your birthday, and theologically sound insults were among our topics today. Oh, and Shannon inadvertently (on purpose) offended an entire sub-culture.
Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest chicken wing-eating day of the year, but there may be a shortage of wings this year.
Never fear, our Prevenings listeners have come to the rescue with an alternate recipe. Plus, we found an interesting new web "TV" series and a special clown becomes and gets an answer to prayer all at the same time.
Would you make a sandwich with these two pieces of bread? That's the question that got us talking about your quirks in the kitchen. Plus a Hollywood legend, who is still very much alive, is now on Twitter.
We learned more about the awesome fruit that is the blueberry plus a little known fact about the strawberry. And the conversation on that labor pain simulator continued and led to a discussion on learning or being surprised by a baby's gender. And Shannon found a special dog to follow on Instagram. Plus the legend of the cleaning fairy.
Shannon finally figured out what to do with all of those blueberries she bought on impulse the other day and she shared her recipe. We also got an "insider" tip about the ongoing Subway sandwich controversy. And we discussed the many sides of Prince Harry and a new labor pain simulator for expectant dads.
Sorbet, lemonade, Beyonce, bidet. What do these things have in common? They played prominently on today's episode of Prevenings.
Well, we made it through another Monday. Seems like the first day of the week is often the most stressful, so we came up with a unique stress relief technique.
Secret Keeper Girl is coming to town on February 26. All the details are right HERE on our website. We began a conversation with Danna Gresh, the founder of Pure Freedom and Secret Keeper Girl (or SKG for you hipsters). We also heard back from one of yesterday's callers with the results of her first face-to-face date with someone she "met" on line. All that, our weekly apologies and more in today's highlights.
You shared some advice and stories about romance, both real and virtual. Plus, when do you call it quits and the new JOY FM Wall of Inspiration. All of that and more were among our highlights on Prevenings.
Run away 5-year olds, self-diagnosis via Dr. Google and romance advice from your smartphone assistant were among the topics we touched on today.
It's flu season and we shared Mandisa's home remedy as well as some of yours. We also talked about inconvenient conveniences and workplace fridge thieves.
Funny how often we come back to talking about food, and snack foods in particular. Today we mentioned that a Georgia based bakery, Flower Foods, will be buying the Hostess bread brands, including Wonder Bread, but so far no word on any company buying the snack cake brands, like Twinkies--and that generated some calls. And a well-meaning phone call may have caused a little panic.
Even though we're only 33 days from pitchers and catcher reporting for Major League Baseball's 2013 Spring Training, Jerry hasn't let go of the Christmas spirit, and Shannon called him out on it. Plus we discussed Louie Giglio's decision to withdraw from participating in President Obama's inauguration.
Words that are hard for you to pronounce, where to find the rudest people and a special internationally cultural visit with Matt Fields, producer for The Morning Cruise, were among the highlights today.
What's that in your purse? We talked about the essentials you carry in your purse, or, if you're a guy, your "man-purse". Plus, Jerry had a little trouble with techno-speak, and it was only Tuesday.
This tweet from Mike of MIKESCHAIR inspired a little conversation today. And we learned a cool thing you can do with Girl Scout Cookies.
We wrapped up the first (short) week of the new year with notes on music for your final journey, weird food combinations and more.
Today would have been the 121st birthday of JRR Tolkien and that got us talking about Shannon's vow to stop running to Google so often. We also shared words that should be retired this year and a new way to remember the best of 2013.
