When I played football in high school, I kept a towel that I’d written “PHIL. 4:13” on in permanent marker. Philippians 4:13 - “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” - is a reminder to me that the strength I have to do everything I can do should be attributed to the One who made me and gave me that strength. Does this mean that I could accomplish everything that I wanted to do in the sport of football? No. If I had my way I would have been the star of the team and I certainly wasn’t. It means, rather, that I can be content with the power He gives me. However, in ALL THINGS, whether in sports, school, work, ministry…you name it, we should put forth the effort to (as Colossians 3:17 commands) do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus. In other words, we need to do our best at all times because it honors God.
