Smoke on the Mountain

Smoke on the Mountain is an Off-Broadway musical that was written by Connie Ray and conceived by Alan Bailey. It was performed at the Lamb's Theatre in New York City in 1990 and had 475 performances. The Lamb's revived it in 1998. The name of the musical comes from Psalm 104:32: "He who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke" (Psalm 104:32). Smoke on the Mountain is one of the most produced shows worldwide.  It tells the story of the Sanders Family who are returning to the "gospel circuit" at a Saturday Night Sing in June 1938.  The cast sings and plays many instruments including fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass, autoharp, piano and harmonica.  Songs include I'll Fly Away, Church in the Wildwood, No Tears in Heaven, Angel Band, Whispering Hope, When the Roll is Called Up Yonder, and more.

"Totally beguiling ... foot stomping soul food." - New York Post

"Wildly funny.... So well written that I found myself laughing, rooting for the family, and singing along and clapping with the rest of the audience." - The Trentonian

The Southern Crescent Chorale is happy to bring this production to Fayette County.  The cast includes professional actors as well as local favorites.

Bill Archer of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph calls the production "rib-rattling fun with a heavy dose of thought provoking melancholy mixed with music, music, music.
Smoke on the Mountain is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.
