Everyone was talking about the eclipse today, but the light of this new day brought us Dave Cruse, back from a tough but meaningful ten days.

LISTEN   Dave took care of his father's garden before leaving Baton Rouge. And his dad's watch graced his wrist.

LISTEN   Meanwhile, his wife and youngest son were trying to get home from Asia, the mission trip Dave was supposed to go on!

LISTEN   As expected, Dave put Carmen's plan to run a half marathon in a "different perspective."

Carmen has been listening to the devil! Screwtape, to be exact, senior demon and "uncle" of Wormwood, the addressee of C.S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters.

In chapter 11, Screwtape distinguishes four types of humor: Joy, fun, The Joke Proper, and flippancy. He says The Joke Proper is very useful to demons, because humans hide shame, prejudice, and all kinds of wickedness behind a supposed show of humor. Carmen likened it to Southerners cutting someone down and then saying "bless her heart."

LISTEN   This caller loved it, and as a teacher, reads C.S. Lewis to her students every year!
